Testimonials

The sense of community within Nebraska Women in STEM has bolstered my confidence, given me a safe space to seek advice, and helped me overcome feelings of isolation that can sometimes arise in male-dominated environments in the STEM fields. It’s been incredibly empowering to connect with role models who have navigated similar paths, offering guidance and encouragement invaluable to my personal growth and well-being. ~ Pamela Martínez Oquendo

I grew up in central Nebraska and studied chemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I developed my professional career in laboratory science, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and medical device research before moving out of state for family reasons. I chose to return to my roots in Nebraska for the opportunity to make a living wage and continue to develop my career in STEM. I was delighted to find Nebraska Women in STEM upon my return. From my perspective, Nebraska Women in STEM celebrates the accomplishments of women who’ve already been making their way and brings us together as a stronger voice to advocate for women in the future of STEM development in Nebraska. I’m so thankful to learn from the variety of speakers at Nebraska Women in STEM conferences, who encourage us to be the best version of ourselves and actively speak up for women in research, education, and industry spaces.  ~ Kate Fox

I continue to be inspired by the passion of Nebraska Women in STEM. Their work in bringing the community together and building a space for collaboration, connection, and continuous learning empowers women to thrive, lead, and shape the future of STEM. Their impact is not only transforming individual careers but strengthening the entire STEM ecosystem of our state. ~ Martha Garcia-Murillo, Ph.D.

Nebraska Women in STEM has been a valuable resource for me. Because of Nebraska Women in STEM I have gotten connected to many more women in STEM. Some I may have never met except for being in close proximity during a Nebraska Women in STEM event. I also see a great benefit of the organization for young women in STEM. The environment encourages mentorship and connection, serving as a foundation and platform for guiding and building careers. I have also learned a lot about topics that I might not have known about otherwise. As a lifelong learner, this makes time spent with Nebraska Women in STEM worthwhile. ~ Nancy Williams

Nebraska Women in STEM has been a powerful experience for me, my colleagues, and young women across the state, offering leadership opportunities that connect them directly with policymakers. I’ve witnessed meaningful cross-sector relationships take root and women of all ages gain confidence as they engage with legislators, participate in panels, and attend impactful events. This initiative creates a vital space for women to learn, grow, and advocate for lasting change in Nebraska. ~ Alison O’Toole

Nebraska Women in STEM has been a professional and personal beacon in many ways.  I appreciate so much the Listen then Act report that highlighted the unique and often hidden or brushed aside challenges that women in STEM face. I also appreciate the focus on the resilience of Nebraska women in STEM and what sorts of attitudes and inner dialogues have allowed women to be successful in male dominated fields.  The report has validated so much of my own experience and has also allowed me to more effectively mentor younger women who are curious about how to survive and thrive in male dominated fields. The current political backlash against studies and research that focus on women is very, very sad to me.  Most of my male colleagues are interested in providing equitable opportunities for their colleagues and are curious about what factors stymie non-traditional or underrepresented groups in STEM. I hope that Nebraska Women in STEM continues to receive financial and political support since expanding the talent pool can only improve innovation and creative approaches to the challenges that affect the economy and well-being of Nebraskans.
